Pack-A-Sack 4 Kids
Pack-A-Sack 4 Kids is a community outreach program that is designed to help address the problem of chronic hunger among elementary age children in our public schools. FUMC focus is on those children who are on free or reduced lunch programs that meet the criteria of being chronically hungry. The program began when we adopted Woodlawn Elementary School in 2009 and began providing a nutritious group of snacks to eligible children who might not have adequate food over the weekend. We started with 20 packs and increased to 100 in 2010. In 2012 FUMC adopted Campbell Park Elementary School and began proving snacks to 90 children. Currently, 190 packs are delivered to the two schools every week. Teams of volunteers meet every Wednesday at 12:30 to unwrap the products and put them in plastic bags. The sacks are than delivered to the schools where the staff members transfer the food to Pack-A-Snack backpacks and distribute them to the children every Friday.
